Anthony's work has been very popular with the public from his first one-man show in 1976. It is his intricate attention to detail, the rich texture, subtleties and play of light and shade that make him increasingly popular. Anthony’s favourite subjects are trees and big cats, but he also has a love of painting elephants. An elected member of the Society of Animal Artists in New York, Anthony is widely recognised as one of the UK’s foremost wildlife artists. This picture, he feels, is probably one of his very best. He has tried to portray a story of nature reflected from those eyes that reveal the hard life the big cats have to endure. Despiter the detail in his pictures, Gibbs is renowned for capturing the life and character of his subjects too.
