inscribed letters, black painted, on front: ALBERT, / PRINCE CONSORT, / Born 26th August 1819 Died 14th December 1861 / HE LAID THE FOUNDATION STONE OF THE / ROYAL DOCK, GREAT GRIMSBY, / ON THE 18TH APRIL 1849, / AND THE DOCK WAS OPENED ON THE / 27TH MAY 1852.; on the right side: TO COMMEMORATE THE / INAUGURATION AND COMPLETION / OF THESE GREAT WORKS THIS MEMORIAL / HAS BEEN ERECTED BY / SIR EDWARD WILLIAM WATKIN. M.P. / CHAIRMAN OF THE / MANCHESTER SHEFFIELD AND LINCOLN / SHIRE RAILWAY COMPANY / 1879. On the back: EXTRACT FROM SPEECH OF THE / PRINCE CONSORT / ON THE 18TH APRIL 1849.
