Above the main door is a cast-metal grille with a chorus-line of six art deco maidens. They are dancing before the central female figure, representing Wisdom. They each step in an identical pose, with their arms splayed, supporting circular discs on which are various symbols. The robed Wisdom holds an owl in her right hand and a mirror in her left. The design of the grille was drawn in detail on the elevation issued by Giles Gilbert Scott in July 1931. The carvings of Peace and Plenty, Benevolence and Prudence are in an art deco style by Hermon Cawthra. The figures of Peace and Plenty are on the pilaster to the left of the central window on the first floor. Benevolence and Prudence are to the right.
