This painting was executed by Boucher in 1763 and later exhibited at the Salon of 1765. It depicts two young shepherds at the edge of a wood. This work is a fine example of the kind of playful pastoral scene which would become the hallmark of Boucher's art and eventually of the whole Rococo period.
