There is carved decoration on the main door and domed corner tower. Flanking the arched entrance are groups of plain pilasters with capitals occupied by clusters of male and female figures. Each capital has two figures facing outwards, supporting a coat of arms: on the left is Scotland, held by a soldier and a winged female; on the right is Glasgow, held by a medieval woman and a soldier. Saint Andrew and Saint Mungo are tucked behind in the respective re-entrant angles. Above the door is a semi-circular tympanum with a peacock mosaic by the British and Italian Mosaic Company, divided in the centre by a miniature tabernacle composed of spiralling tendrils and clusters of stylised leaves. The outer arch springs are marked by roundels containing sleeping babies.
