This painting is a view of Petteril Street, Carlisle, from number 30, showing rows of terraced houses facing onto the road. People can be seen walking on the pavements. A red bus, two cars, and a horse and cart can be seen on the road. Betty Walker was born in Carlisle, educated at the County High School and attended the School of Art at Tullie House. She submitted this painting to the national 'Housewives Art Exhibition'. It was one of 200 successful entries displayed at the Walker Galleries, London. She received a coffee set as a prize.
