The so-called Narcissus was discovered in Pompeii in 1862 (now held at the Museo Nazionale, Naples) and quickly acclaimed as a masterpiece. By the turn of the century, revised opinion suggested that the bronze represented Dionysos, but the work is still generally known as 'Narcissus'.
