In 2002, members of the public were asked to nominate people who had made a significant contribution to island life potential sitters for a forthcoming portrait. From these nominations, Daphne Minihane was chosen to be the portrait’s sitter. Daphne Minihane is well known locally for her crusading work to provide a better life for the elderly and other disadvantaged groups. She was awarded an MBE for her work in 1974 for ‘services to the community’.
