The sculpture depicts a mother looking ahead, with her child looking behind her at a string shopping bag that she holds in her right hand. The bag contains lumps of coal, a bobbin, books, and a doll. These objects reference mining, elastic web weaving, Pallitoy and other industries of the town. It was installed in its current site in 1988.
