A wooden, free-standing Māori sculpture of a male god with facial tattoos (ta moko) and loosely attached human hair. The figure has subsequently been castrated, probably because of the influence of white missionaries. The hands have four fingers and there are carved patterns on the knees. There are holes in the ears where earrings may have been attached. The figure was possibly from the ridge pole of a meeting house (wharenui) or may have been an item made for the tourist market.
