Lord Melville wears a contemporary outfit consisting of a heavy jacket with wide lapels, a waistcoat, a tightly wound neckcloth, knee-breeches, and silk stockings, all overlaid with a voluminous cloak that falls from his right shoulder, sweeps round under his left arm and is finally gathered in a mass of looping folds draped over his right forearm.
