Previously thought to be a portrait of Kitty Fisher (1741–1767) by Francis (1726–1770) it has since been identified as a copy of Joshua Reynolds' 1758 portrait of Annetta Coke, held in the National Gallery of Art, Washington, USA (Accession number 2015.19.45). The original includes an inscription, possibly from the nineteenth century: 'ANNETTA. D. OF / EDWARD COKE, / WIFE OF LEWIS CAGE / OF MILGATE, KENT; lower left reverse: J. R. 1758'. Catalogue notes for the original state that 'The painting was probably commissioned in celebration of the sitter's marriage to Lewis Cage (d.1800) on 17 January 1759.'
