This statue depicts a man teaching a boy to swim. It is the only non-architectural, free-standing sculpture made by Creswick in Birmingham. He probably obtained the commission because of his reputation as a sculptor, but he was also a resident of Sutton Coldfield. Helped by his two sons, the statue was modelled and cast in his back garden at Elmwood, Jockey Road, and was presented to the Swimming Club in 1921. The present swimming baths were not opened until 1971.
