inscription on marble panel appears to be a copy of inscription on stone plinth below bust, which has become only partially legible, and reads: KENNETH MURRAY OF GEANNIES / PROVOST OF TAIN, BORN 1825 DIED 1876 / THIS MONUMENT HAS BEEN ERECTED / AND A UNIVERSITY BURSARY FOUNDED / IN CONNECTION WITH TAIN ACADEMY / BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION AS A MEMORIAL / OF HIS ESTIMABLE CHARACTER AND PUBLIC USEFULNESS / 1879
