This free-standing drinking fountain has a six-sided cast iron foliate open-work canopy. The canopy is bell-shaped with moulded ribs and is painted a matte blue/green and surmounted by a finial. Supporting the canopy are six cylindrical metal columns, painted black, with cocoa-pod capitals. A tin-based alloy cast metal shield, fixed to one of the rear panels of the canopy, bears a bas-relief portrait of Simon Short. In profile, facing right, Short has a full beard, long hair and spectacles.
