A half-length female portrait of a young woman, her dark hair in ringlets falling around her shoulders. She wears an off-the-shoulder gown with short puffed sleeves, decorated at the cuffs with jewelled bracelets. At the front she wears a pearl decoration. The bodice is of embroidered material, possibly silk, and she wears a pearl necklace, pearl drop earrings, and a decoration of pearl in her hair. The portrait is presented in an oval frame with carved leaves around the edges.

Magdalen Aston was the daughter of Sir Thomas Aston, the first Baronet, by Anne, his second wife, and sister of Sir Willoughby Aston, Bt. She married Sir Robert Burdett, the third Baronet in 1676, and died in 1694. Their son, Sir Robert Burdett, was a strong Jacobite and assisted the Young Pretender in his march south.
