A plaster cast in low relief, after the Italian Renaissance original by Desiderio da Settignano made around 1460. The Madonna is on the left with her hands together in prayer, with the Christ Child on her lap to the right. Winged cherub's heads are in the top left and top right. The Madonna's dress is painted blue and her cloak painted yellow, with a band of yellow cloth around the Christ Child. The eyes of the Madonna, Christ Child and both cherubs are painted blue. The original marble relief was on the Palazzo Panciatichi in the Via Cavour in Florence. This cast could have been produced at anytime between 1837 and 1951. D. Brucciani and Co. was established in 1837 and continued after Domenico Brucciani's death in 1880. The company folded in 1922, but the moulds were bought by the Board of Education and casts continued to be made from the moulds by the Victoria and Albert Museum until 1951.
