16th century building, refaced with flint and red brick headers in 1763, for £272 16s 6d, a sum that would have covered the whole refurbishment, which according to the accounts, was done to the designs of Charles Wright of Beccles. Stone escutcheon and coat of arms probably part of 1763 refurbishment, on first floor, bricking out earlier window. The accompanying plaque and inscription have been renewed. Following the sale of Leman house in September 1910 to S. White for £600 the East Suffolk Gazette (11 October) notes the original escutcheon and inscription over the east gable but then accompanied by founder’s initials JL and date of 1870.
