This late-Victorian and highly romantic landscape was painted by an artist signing himself 'B. Brontë', who was for many years confused with Branwell. B. Brontë may well have been distantly related to the literary Brontës, but Branwell habitually signed his work, 'P. B. Brontë', or just 'P. B.'. The known paintings of B. Brontë are invariably landscapes, often from Northumberland and Wales.
