Painting, watercolour, Hawcoat by Alan Collister. The painting is part of a series (TH.0022-TH.0030) commissioned by Barrow Borough Council to commemorate the centenary of the Town Hall in 1987. Alan Collister was born on the Isle of Man and worked almost forty years in Barrow's shipyard. Alan likes to try to capture the feel of the weather in his local scenes and views and sticks mainly to the Furness peninsula for his subjects. "I've always loved watercolour the best," he said. "I think you can capture atmosphere with watercolour." He exhibits regularly with the Barrow Society of Artists and has won the St Cuthbert's Mill Award of the British Watercolour Society.
