Inscription description

plaque: THE LAND ARMY MEMORIAL SCOTLAND / OPENED BY HRH THE PRINCE CHARLES, DUKE OF ROTHESAY / 9TH OCTOBER 2012 / IN COMMEMORATION OF THE WORK OF / THE WOMEN'S LAND ARMY / AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE NATION / DURING TWO WORLD WARS / "LIFE IN THE WLA WAS NOT ALL ROSY BUT THE ABIDING MEMORY OF MANY WAS ONE OF / HAPPINESS. AS SUCH THE MEMORIAL WAS DESIGNED TO HAVE A JOYOUS IMAGE AS ITS / HEART. IT DEPICTS AN UN-CRUSHABLE LUST FOR LIFE AND EXHIBITS THE WONDERFUL / NOSTALGIA OF WHAT ARE OFTEN REMEMBERED AS GOLDEN YEARS. IN THIS SENSE IT IS / DIFFERENT FROM ALL OTHER WAR MEMORIALS AND THAT UNIQUENESS IS PART OF ITS / STRENGTH AND APPEAL. ALTHOUGH LOSS IS PART OF IT, IT IS FAR MORE TO DO WITH / REMEMBERING HAPPINESS, TIED IN WITH COMPANIONSHIP. COMRADESHIP IS INTEGRAL / TO THE DESIGN. THE GIRLS LEAN TOGETHER. EACH FIGURE CONNECTS TO THE NEXT. THEY / ARE ALL UNITED AS A TEAM ON THE GATE. THEIR CAMARADERIE HINTS AT THE GREATER ONE / THAT UNITED THE NATION AND HELPED TO SEE IT THROUGH THE WARS." / "ULTIMATELY, I THINK ALL WAR MEMORIALS SHOULD CREATE SOME EMOTIONAL STIR WITHIN / THE VIEWER. THAT MIX OF EMOTIONS CAN BE COMPLEX. IN THIS CASE, THOUGH, I WANT / THE WOMEN'S LAND ARMY MEMORY TO GLADDEN THE SPIRIT, TO LIFT THE HEART." / ARTIST: PETER W NAYLOR; plaque: WOMENS / LAND ARMY / BELOW THIS PLAQUE IS A TIME CAPSULE, BURIED BY / SURVIVING MEMBERS OF THE WOMEN'S LAND ARMY / ON THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF THE INSTALLATION OF THIS / MEMORIAL ON 18TH OCTOBER 2013. / IT CONTAINS MEMORABILIA OF THE UNVEILING OF THE / MEMORIAL AND THE WORK OF THE WOMEN'S LAND ARMY, COMMEMORATING THEIR EFFORTS IN THE TWO WORLD WARS. / THIS CAPSULE IS TO BE OPENED ON THE / 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INSTALLATION OF THE MEMORIAL / IN OCTOBER 2087.
