The building on the left foreground, on the shore, is identified by Hamilton as a temple of Proserpine, and a grotto on the right bank of the lake as the grotto of the Cumaean sibyl, though another grotto in Cumae competes for that title. In the distance, Capo Miseno (the promontory of Misenum). Published in 'Campi Phlegraei', by Sir William Hamilton, Naples 1776, vol.1, plate XXXIX.
