A portrait of Lilian Lingeman, née Nutt, by Johanna Strumphler, her first cousin by marriage. The sitter is wearing an elegant blue opera coat and holding a magnolia flower. From research via Art UK's Art Detective, it is believed that the portrait was painted c.1922 (probably in the spring of that year), and in Amsterdam where Lilian and Johanna were both living at the time. Lilian's father, A. Y. Nutt, was an architect and artist closely connected with Windsor Castle. He was Clerk of Works and Chapel Surveyor until he retired in 1912. His collection of work was donated to the museum and it included this portrait. Lillian married Arthur Aldton Lingeman (1875–1959) in 1904; they had no children.
