The first section is a Celtic cross, at its centre the relief of a crown, on its shaft the relief of a sword and gun. The inscription and name plate are on the main body of the memorial and the base has a relief of a dove and wreath. In 1919, a local committee was formed to consider the erection of a permanent memorial to the Kerridge men who died in the First World War. The site, on the Endon Hall estate, was given by Colonel W. Brocklehurst. The memorial cost £200, raised through voluntary subscriptions. Broster, a monumental mason, completed the work at the Canal Wharf during the summer of 1919. It was dedicated in September 1919.
