Kenneth Cross (1890–1968) was the last President (1956–1958) of the Old School and his presidency was marked by noisy clashes in the Institute between the traditionalists and the Modernists. Cross straddled both camps although his buildings of the 1950s looked as though they had been designed in the 1920s and he could ‘do’ both neo-Georgian and International Modern as the client wished.
