Kenneth Mackenzie was a fish curer and coal merchant before he established a Harris Tweed manufacturer’s plant at Lewis Street, Stornoway. He later moved the business to Sandwick Road where it still trades today, but with a much reduced capacity and owned outwith the family. Kenneth’s great grandson, Sir Christopher Edward Woolaston Mackenzie Geidt, KCVO, OBE, is currently the Private Secretary to HM Queen Elizabeth II. Kenneth Mackenzie served on Stornoway Town Council from 1903 until 1912, and again from 1921 until 1925 when he retired due to ill health.
