Oldfield was appointed physician to Guy’s hospital in 1725 and worked there until his death in 1748. He was a witness to Thomas Guy’s will. Oldfield was born in Surrey, the son of Presbyterian Rev. Joshua Oldfield. He studied in Leyden where he graduated as a doctor of medicine. He was admitted to the College of Physicians in 1729 and a fellow in 1730.
