ULTIMATELY HE BECAME A / LEADING FINANCIAL AUTHORITY. / HIS MANY LOCAL BENEFACTIONS INCLUDED GIFTS FOR THE CREATION OF THE PEOPLE’S PARK, THE HOSPITAL, / A TOWN LIBRARY, THE PHYSICS LABORATORY AT BLUNDELL'S / SCHOOL. HE GAVE TWO BELLS TO WASHFIELD CHURCH / WHICH HE HELPED TO RESTORE IN 1873. / HE WAS CHAIRMAN OF THE GOVERNORS OF BLUNDELL'S / SCHOOL AND WAS ELECTED AN HONORARY FREEMAN OF / THE BOROUGH OF TIVERTON IN 1904.
