Three-quarter-length portrait of Baillie, seated and turned at an angle to the right while his gaze meets us head on. The elbows rest on the arms of an eighteenth-century chair while the right hand is clasped within the left. The sitter is placed against a blue and red curtain. He wears Court dress as Chaplain to the Queen of Scotland with the star and ribbon of the Companion of Honour and a row of medals. The portrait is executed in a meticulous and detailed manner.
