A sculpture of two faces looking in opposite directions, set on a tall plinth. In ancient Roman mythology, Janus is the god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, and endings. He is generally depicted as having two faces, as it was said that he looks to the future and to the past.
