Like 'Portrait of a Couple, said to be John Tradescant the Elder and his Wife Elizabeth', this painting is supposed to have come from the Tradescant house at Lambeth. No other portrait of the sitter exists, so the identification cannot be confirmed. Jane Hurte (d.1634) married John Tradescant the Younger in 1627 and was the mother of Frances and John III.
