James Luckcock, a successful jeweller by profession, was an educational and political reformer. He was a prominent member of the Birmingham Unitarian Old Meeting and developed the Birmingham Brotherly Society which trained Sunday school pupils to be Sunday school teachers. He is holding a copy of his book 'Moral Culture' (1817), which contains his addresses to the Brotherly Society and was influenced by the educational theory of Joseph Priestley.
