An oil painting of a woman stood with a man in uniform. In the centre of the two tone screenprint is the head and shoulders of a woman with dark hair and dark defined eyebrows. Behind her is a soldier. The white buttons on his collar and on his chest contrast with his coat.

This print on canvas is one of several images by Warhol which use Jackie Kennedy as the main subject. This image is based on the media treatment of her husband's funeral, during which Jackie came to symbolise a national sense of loss and bereavement. The original colour photograph from the cover of Life Magazine showing Jackie and her children descending the steps of the Capitol in Washington has been cropped and bleached out to reduce it to simple areas of black and white half tone.
