At centre of image is a two-storey building with light-coloured stonework at the lower storey and dark timber at the upper storey. The lower storey shows a door within an arched doorway, one rectangular window to left of the doorway and three to right. The upper storey shows three rectangular windows to right and one rectangular window to left. The window to left is either boarded up or shuttered. A sign attached to the upper storey at left reads: "J.B. Souter Timber Engraver". To left of the building is a low wooden fence, behind which trees are visible. The fence continues to left of the trees, with boards or planks piled up behind the fence. At the top of one of the piles two figures are visible. One figure stands and holds a plank at the centre; the other figure kneels to left and holds the bottom of the plank.
