A heroic size figure in academic robes, carrying a book, stands on classical plinth above tall, battered base. There is a cast iron fence around, a eulogy by Dr Johnson inscribed on base, and also a legend telling that the statue was erected by public subscription, 1845. The famous preacher's life dates are also inscribed.
