A musical concert in an opulent Victorian townhouse. A young female soloist, in a white dress with yellow trim, stands in the centre of the room on a pale yellow fitted carpet. She is about to begin playing on her violin, which is in position beneath her chin, her bow at her side. She is to be accompanied by two men at a piano to the right. An audience of ladies in colourful dresses and gentlemen in formal evening wear can be seen through a doorway on the left. They are sitting down on a spiral staircase, having been unable to fit into the room for the performance. They crowd the doorway. Many audience members are seated in the room, including a young lady with a fan turning to converse with a bearded gentleman in the bottom left corner. The audience includes two Indian dignitaries or princes, seated to the right of the performer, in rich traditional dress.
