The life-size statue is set on a low concrete base at the top of the green, near the Golden lion Inn (the first building planned and built by Le Strange on the site of the new town). He stands in a a frock coat with waistcoat, walking stick in his right hand, holding his cuff with the left, facing the sea but turning to look south, waiting for the first visitors to New Hunstanton, which he had designed and opened up to rail travel. This is symbolised by the curved track at his feet, while the brush and palette stand for his career as a painter, the telescope and small round tower church (planned but never built), his planning of the railway and layout of the new town.
