Henry Brougham, 1st Baron Brougham and Vaux, campaigned as a Member of Parliament for educational reform. He was the prime instigator behind the establishment of University College London (1828) and was a member of the Senate of the University of London from 1836 onwards. The work is in a gilt gesso frame.
