This is a partial copy of an antique full-length bronze found at Pompeii in 1862 (held at the Museo Nazionale, Naples). A full-length copy cast at the Chiurazzi Foundry, Naples is in the collection of Somerville College, University of Oxford, which records that by the turn of the century, revised opinion was that the bronze represented Dionysos, although the work is still generally known as 'Narcissus'.
