In a ruined condition, this painting was previously identified as a copy of Dolci's 'St Mary Magdalen' (Uffizi, Florence). The prototype is the celebrated 'St Lucy' of c.1670 (Uffizi, now attributed to the studio of Dolci), a much-copied devotional image. This painting closely follows the costume, hair and expression, but omits the saint's attribute of a wound in her neck.
