A fragment of a carved stone face from a statue; all that survives is the front part of face down to the upper lip. The face appears to be grotesque and is wearing a garland of leaves. Described as ‘probably XVII century' , this work is more likely to be from the eighteenth century. The firm of Wheaton and Company occupied 185–186 Fore Street from 1835 and also 143 Fore Street from around 1901. This carving is therefore likely to be from 143 Fore Street. 143 Fore Street was built in 1714 in the Queen Anne style. The scale and grotesque nature of the features suggest a giant but its identification as a Green Man is also possible.
