Leven’s starting point is the Scottish landscape, its water and weather but, as in this work, this changes into an internal mindscape. The viewer is left to respond to the subtle tones and colour in their own way. The process of painting for Leven is intuitive, spontaneous, working with energy and intensity. This work was made during a residency at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in 2003.
