Stefan Knapp was brought up in Poland but trained as an artist in Britain at the Slade School of Art. During his career he has executed many mural decorations in and on major buildings all over the world, including the façade of Terminal 2 at Heathrow Airport. 'Green Painting', like many works by the artist, is executed in baked enamel on metal. This medium can easily be integrated into architecture and also enables Stefan Knapp to use pure, bright colours. His work tends to be abstract and this painting is no exception. It presents a dramatic, animated arched form which leads the viewer's eyes across the picture. The work is divided into five separate panels which may encourage the spectator to also consider five different compositions. The fact that 'Green Painting' has no frame perhaps suggests that the image could continue beyond the picture space.
