A bronze cast serviceman dressed in overcoat, sheepskin jerkin and scarf, with helmet back off shoulders reading a letter set against a cenotaph shaped background of white marble. A vellum roll containing the names of the fallen is deposited under the statue in a sealed casket made at the GWR Swindon Works. Badges of the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force are engraved on the plinth.
