A tall rubble column with a corbelled and crenellated wallhead; surmounted by a later bronze statue of a Highlander. There is a battered base with a pulvinated string course and a barely projecting corniced entrance porch serving internal spiral stair. It is surrounded by a coped eight-sided rubble wall with three later pedimented sections containing inscriptions in English, Gaelic and Latin. A folly in a sublime landscape standing close to the site at the head of Loch Shiel where the Jacobite standard was raised in August 1745. It was erected in 1814 to commemorate the Highlanders who stood for Prince Charles Edward during 1745 rebellion by Alexander MacDonald of Glenaladale, who died before completion and to whom the plaques are also a memorial.
