'Nobby' was born in 1813 and died in 1867. He is described as an old Uxbridge character who never did a day's work in his life. He earned his living by doing odd jobs. However his claim to fame was his remarkable memory. He would remember people's birthdays and greet them in the street or go to their houses to give them good wishes, for which he would be rewarded. Even between birthdays he would greet them by reminding them how many days until their next birthday. He was always seen with a clay pipe either clamped between his teeth or in his hand.
