A slender granite monolithic column from the original Priory of Bodmin and dating probably from the fifteenth century, re-sited as a monument to the memory of Sir Arthur Quiller Couch. Couch, a well known writer who wrote using the pen name 'Q', was born in Bodmin. His 'Oxford Book of English Verse, 1250–1900' which featured various poems from English history, was one of his best known works, though he also penned numerous works of fiction. This stone pillar marked the site of the house in which he was born in 1863. The date of 21st November 1963 is also listed, which is presumably when the post was moved to it’s present location, marking 100 years since Couch's birth. A second plaque states that the column used to stand in the grounds of Bodmin Priory.
