Artists like Van Huysum sometimes waited till a particular flower was in bloom before completing a painting, which is why flowers from different seasons were sometimes shown together. Dutch flower paintings have long been admired for their meticulous detail and technical brilliance. This copy of a painting by van Huysum may have come to Brodsworth Hall through Sylvia Grant-Dalton, née West, whose husband Charles inherited Brodsworth in 1931.
