Ray Howard-Jones was born in Berkshire and died in London, however, she largely grew up in Penarth. In the early 1920s she studied at Slade School of Fine Art in London. During the Second World War, she secured commissions from the War Artists Advisory Committee and some of these works are in the Imperial War Museum. After 1949, she spent a great deal of time in Pembrokeshire and is particularly well-known for her Pembrokeshire coastal work.
