The steam trawler ‘Fawn’ GY1008 was requisitioned by the Admiralty in 1918 for the Fishery Reserve, which was a nucleus of trawlers and drifters established by H. M. Government to maintain the nation's essential seafood supplies while so many such vessels were withdrawn from fishing and engaged in naval duties. In 1919 ‘Fawn’ resumed fishing commercially, but on 24th August of that year she was lost with all hands off Hartlepool, supposedly having struck one of the numerous mines which still posed threats to shipping in the North Sea months after the official ending of the First World War. The crew members were: G. Barker, H. Browon, F. Chester, H. Christensen, T. Coney, W. Hilliam, T. Mothersdill, C. A. Nudd, A. Swainton, P. Stephenson and T. Taylor.
